About Guatemalan Palm

Every palm hat begins in the hands of skilled artisans in Guatemala, where palm weaving has been a cherished tradition for centuries. Passed down through generations, this enduring craft creates lightweight, durable hats designed to withstand long days under the sun. Using locally harvested palm leaves, each hat is woven with remarkable care before making its way to my Colorado studio, where I have the privilege of refining, shaping, and adorning every piece. The result is a hat that honors the legacy of its origins while carrying its own unique story forward.

  • Species: Sabal mexicana, var. guatemalensis

  • 7-strand braid, about 1/2" wide

  • Have more surface texture, hand-crafted appearance

  • Retains shape when wet

  • Can be reshaped with just water

  • UPF 50 - Blocks 98% of UV Light

My Guatemalan Palm Leaf hat body supplier has been working directly with Guatemalan hat makers for over 30 years, paying fair prices for superior craftsmanship.

Sizing Tip

The Guatemalan hat has a foam-padded cotton twill sweatband that tends to shrink about 1% with heat and moisture. This is about 1/2 of a hat size (1/16" diameter). If you are buying a Guatemalan hat, we recommend buying a hat that is just a little bit loose to allow for this shrinkage. This usually means buying one size larger than you normally wear.

To Determine Your Hat Size

  • Measure around your head where you wear your hats in inches (circumference).

  • Use the chart in the photos to determine your hat size

Handmade & One of a Kind

Like every hat I create, each piece is made by hand using thoughtfully sourced materials. Because many of the textiles, beads, and natural elements I work with are one of a kind or available only in small quantities, your hat may feature slight variations from the one pictured. These subtle differences are intentional—they ensure every hat remains unique while staying true to the original design and spirit of the collection.
