Warm desert landscapes, wildflowers, artisan markets, weathered adobe walls, golden afternoon light, and woven textiles inspired this design. The Baja celebrates the beauty of earthy color, collected materials, and craftsmanship that tells a story.
Built on an oak vented Española crown, this silhouette offers generous airflow while honoring a style long favored throughout the American Southwest. Its rounded crown and gently sweeping brim create a relaxed profile that feels equally at home beneath the high desert sun or wandering a mountain town.
Layers of thoughtfully sourced materials bring warmth and texture to the design. The first element is a braid of recycled sari silk from India. Originally created for traditional sari garments, these vibrant textiles are cut into ribbon, allowing their extraordinary colors and character to live on in a new form. Strands of khaki, vintage pink, and adobe were combined to create the foundation of the design. A rich leather wrap grounds the palette, while fine mustard yarn woven with subtle metallic threads and carefully selected beads add quiet moments of color, texture, and light. Every layer was chosen to complement the next, creating a piece that feels collected rather than decorated.
Like every hat I create, each piece is made by hand using thoughtfully sourced materials. Because many of the textiles, beads, and natural elements I work with are one of a kind or available only in small quantities, your hat may feature slight variations from the one pictured. These small differences are intentional, they ensure every piece remains unique while staying true to the original design and spirit of the collection.
If you love these embellishments but would prefer a different crown shape or palm color, I'd be happy to adapt the design. Please reach out.
